GULF PRODUCTION MONITOR: August 27, 2008 Tropical Storm Gustav is projected to be in the Central Gulf offshore Louisiana as a hurricane by Monday morning (see storm track map bottom of p. 2). Significant production shut-ins should take place as a result of Gustav. However, production remains fairly steady today, as it has been for more than a week. A number of offshore pipelines, including those owned by Enbridge and Sonat, already have warned of potential force majueres because of the storm. Gulf Production Monitor

Throughout hurricane season (June-November) the energy industry is constantly reminded that significant damage to the Gulf-producing infrastructure could be only a storm away. Whether such a storm happens in any given year has the potential to dramatically impact energy prices and location differentials.

In 2005, BENTEK responded to this challenge by publishing our Gulf Coast Natural Gas Production Report, a.k.a. the ‘BENTEK Hurricane Report.' From August 27, 2005 to March 17, 2006 we provided a precise summary of production attached to each pipeline in the Gulf, and how that production was affected by Katrina and Rita. The report was discontinued after most production recovery operations had been completed.

In June 2006 we reintroduced this report, now titled the BENTEK Gulf Coast Production Monitor. In a format similar to the BENTEK Hurricane Report, this report tracks total gulf production on a daily basis. The total gulf number is split between Louisiana and Texas, with the Louisiana Region numbers including (1) Louisiana Onshore, (2) Louisiana Offshore, (3) Federal Offshore Louisiana, and (4) the Alabama/Florida/Mississippi area. The Texas Region numbers include (5) Texas Onshore and (6) Federal Offshore Texas. Two separate tables in the report detail daily Louisiana and Texas production by pipeline.
