U.S. seen facing challenges finding outlets for gas supply

Friday, June 08, 2012

North American natural gas producers will be challenged over the next several years to find outlets for their continuously growing production, industry officials and analysts said Thursday in Pittsburgh.

The US is currently long on gas by about 2.8 Bcf/d, said Jack Weixel, client services director for Platts unit Bentek Energy, at the Platts Steel Business Briefing Shale Play Tubulars conference.

Although production is likely to slow in the near term because of low prices, Bentek forecasts that overall output will grow by about 2.2 Bcf/d annually, reaching 74.9 Bcf/d by 2017.
