BENTEK production methodology is capturing increased Texas natural gas production not noted in other data sources

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Rapid development in the Eagle Ford Shale has contributed to a growing discrepancy in gross production figures reported for Texas by a number of key industry sources. The Railroad Commission of Texas has reported declining production since April 2011, while EIA 914 and BENTEK's production estimate show sustained growth in the basin.

The divergence in recent estimates has added to confusion about supply trends in the state. The analysis in this Special Feature explains what is driving the differences from these sources and details BENTEK's Texas production estimates.

BENTEK's Texas Observer reports Texas natural gas production is growing. The state's increased natural gas production is being driven primarily by growth in the Eagle Ford, which has seen a 1.6-Bcf/d increase in production compared to June 2011. BENTEK expects Texas production to continue growing gradually as horizontal rigs continue to move into the area and as processing capacity additions relieve constraints in the basin.

Key features of BENTEK's Texas Observer:

• Special emphasis on Eagle Ford infrastructure and production

• Infrastructure updates, including expansions, Mexican export projects, LNG export projects and planned storage capacity additions

• Methodology that allows Texas gross production projections to bridge the gap created from the lag in data reported to the state

• Analyze how low natural gas prices are affecting regional production and demand from the power sector

BENTEK's Southeast/Gulf Production Monitor offers comprehensive production data and analysis for key natural gas plays in the Southeast/Gulf including the Haynesville Shale. This monthly report provides five-year production forecasts, rig counts, drilling activity, and transportation as well as pricing analysis.

BENTEK's full line of Observers provides regional coverage of natural gas supply and demand dynamics, price differentials and inflow/outflow analysis.
