Questions remain about how much gas Ruby can expect to flow into Malin in the near-term.
El Paso’s Ruby Pipeline posted its first nominations for gas day July 28, 2011 to flow gas from the Western Rockies basins at Opal Hub in Lincoln County, WY, to Malin, OR -amounting to 4.3% of its total 1.5 Bcf/d capacity.
Ruby will offer Rockies producers a direct route to the West’s premium market, PG&E Citygate in Northern California, and is predicted to provide one of the most low-cost routes out of the Rockies. However, questions remain about how much gas Ruby can expect to flow into Malin in the near-term, given gas-on-gas competition and capacity constraints currently imposed on the entire PG&E system.
Platts' Market Alert, Ruby Delivers to Malin; What’s Next?, analyzes the challenges Ruby Pipeline and producers will face in the coming months, especially as competition intensifies between Canadian and Rockies supply for PG&E Citygate.
